65 people joined our June 4, 2026 Monthly Meeting for two deep dives into making Sacramento’s streets safer and its storefronts more alive. 🚦🏬
Philip Vulliet, Supervising Engineer and new Quick Build Lead with the City of Sacramento’s Transportation Division, walked us through Sacramento’s Quick Builds program. Tier 1 quick builds (paint, plastic, and traffic circulation tweaks) can happen almost immediately, while tier 2 pilot projects take roughly a year. With 13,000 crashes still happening citywide each year, the urgency is real, and we’re excited for this program to take off. Subscribe for updates.
Jeff Kessler of the Vacancy Fee Project made the case for a commercial vacancy tax—a 2028 ballot initiative aimed at changing the math for property owners who profit while keeping storefronts empty. Thanks to Prop 13, assessed values are frozen at purchase price, making it more profitable to sit on a property than rent it out. Vacancy fees could incentivize leasing, filling the gap created by Prop 13. Join the mailing list to learn more.
